Specialist Services to the Water Management and Water Treatment Sector

Understanding your Business
For the water management and treatment sector involved in HSG274 (Parts 1, 2, 3) we offer over 18 years of practical experience in carrying out remedial works associated with the management and control of Legionnaires disease often highlighted within the Water / Legionella Risk Assessment (WRA / LRA).
With poorly installed and maintained water storage and pipework systems encouraging the proliferation of water borne bacteria such as Legionella and Pseudomonas across a wide selection of building types from domestic properties to hospital complex it is important that you only use or recommend a fully insured plumbing contractor fully acquainted with the responsibilities of HSG274 and who you can trust to be confidential.
Understanding the Task
Over the course of a buildings life it is accepted that the intended use, staffing levels, etc will change both up and down from time to time and we have the experience to acknowledge this fact when asked to carry out WRA alterations to wet building services such as reducing Cold Water Storage or removing redundant service branches, etc,
Where possible, such alterations to plant or pipework will be completed leaving a degree of flexibility to return such plant back on-line if the client requests so.
Our experience also allows us to recognise old plumbing systems such as those employing defunct plastic or imperial sized pipework and make suitable allowances when carrying out adaptions to these.
Our Service Offering - Cold Water Storage
Cold Water Storage Tank (Cwst) Repair, Upgrade, and Replacement.
We can attend and compile a confidential, written condition report accompanied with photographs and recommendations. We have over 18 years experience in this field at both practical and management level so our reports can be trusted by you and your clients.

Cwst Repair
Often SMC (Commonly called GRP) Sectional Panel Cwst's suffer with leaks from flanges caused by deterioration of the gasket material or mechanical damage such as movement on the base or impact from maintenance operations.. Sometimes poorly manufactured GRP (Hand made glass fibre) Cwst's experience delamination of the internal gel coat resulting in bacteria colonisation in the pits and cracks (commonly known as osmosis) with subsequent failure of the structural GRP lay-up and leakage.
With steel Cwst's leakage is very rare as there is limited flexibility on the panels, however the biggest concern is with corrosion which both contaminates the stored water and acts as a nutrient for Legionella.
We can repair leaking Cwst's using a variety of methods and materials including the application of glass fibre patching and WRAS Approved 2 pack epoxy coating with warranty.

Cwst Replacement
Over the past 10 - 15 years most original steel Cwst's that would have been installed using the 24 hour storage rule have been replaced with GRP tanks (mostly sectional) with those remaining having been patched up, re-lined or rescued using a butyl liner due to the cost associated with replacement. It is true to say that the majority of those original Cwst's remaining do so because of the limitations on replacement (the easy ones have been done!)
Eventually the decision is made to replace the Cwst either because the repair has not lasted or the building has over storage and this is where impartial advice is crucial to ensure the most cost effective method of replacement is procurred.
Ellwood Mechanical Services are experienced in the replacement of Cwst's in all materials & sizes and our packaged services can include full survey and design for the new Cwst, temporary service provisions, all dismantling and licensed waste disposal, supply and warranted erection of the new Cwst from a network of manufacturer's, pipework adaptions and connections, and cleaning / chlorination / certification of the complete domestic water system on completion.
